Our Review of the Mountain Buggy Urban Single 2007 stroller

The Original - and Still the Best! In a recent Consumer Reports test of eight leading All-Terrain strollers, the Mountain Buggy Urban Series secured the number one spot overall of strollers tested, and was the ONLY stroller tested to receive Consumer Reports' grade of "Excellent" for ease of use. The Urban was also among the lighter strollers tested. The Mountain Buggy Urban Series: The one that started it all still remains supreme!

The excellent Mountain Buggy Urban Stroller is one of the most popular swivel wheel strollers, and one of the original "Urban" strollers to combine a light aluminum frame with 12" air-filled tires. Compared to a flimsy umbrella stroller, the smooth push and shock absorption offered by a Mountain Buggy Urban Single or Urban Double stroller is no comparison at all. It is simply amazing how much smoother the ride is on 12" air filled tires when contrasted with cheapo plastic wheels, and Mountain Buggy strollers pioneered their popularity.

While a bona fide running stroller requires 16" or 20" fixed wheels, the maneuverable Mountain Buggy Urban series is multifaceted: it's an all-terrain walker, an urban shopper, and all-around go-getter that will handle the occasional jog. The front swivel wheel is great for maneuvering in a tight squeeze (a frequent occurrence while shopping or venturing through city streets), and the front swivel wheel locks straight for those light jogs and short sprints.

  • The tires of all Mountain Buggy Strollers are made from Recycled Materials

Bottom Line: There is no denying that the sticker price for a Mountain Buggy is high. Imported from their point of production in New Zealand, all Mountain Buggy strollers feature a remarkable attention to detail, and their quality is hard to beat. While these details do not necessarily come through in an image, a side-by-side comparison between a Mountain Buggy and other, lower-priced strollers is a sure shot. The fabrics, frame, and features offered with Mountain Buggy strollers like the Urban Single affirm these strollers' excellent reputation.

A unique feature to the whole Mountain Buggy stroller line is the Carry Cot accessory. The Mountain Buggy Carry Cot transforms your Mountain Buggy stroller into a traditional "pram." Be sure to check out all the unique accessories available from Mountain Buggy.

Mountain Buggy Urban Single Stroller - perfect!

My husband I love the Mountain Buggy Urban Single stroller! Its better than the BOB. Great for taller people. We take it offroad almost daily. I only gave it 4 stars b/c it was damaged in shipping. not the fault of Mountain Buggy, but I had to ship it to my sister-in-law in the United States so she could ship it to me...however, it was damaged in delivery to my sister-in-law...should have notified Mountain Buggy right away and returned it, but I didn't have time.

Love my Buggy

I looked at this stroller and others for months. Finally I narrowed it down to two choices- the Bob and the Mountain Buggy. I decided to purchase the MB urban elite. It is easy to push, turns on a dime and is so lightweight. The only complaint I have is that the clip for the harness broke on the first day I had it, but Mountain Buggy sent me a replacement right away!

Would buy it again

This is the only stroller we have. I use it daily and it corners like a BMW with the sturdiness of a Tahoe. Even though I use it daily, and run on a dirt trail, the stroller still looks great. The back wheels are a little wide for indoor aisles and the sun shade could be a little longer. Other than that, this has been one of our best baby items. It fits fine in my trunk.

16 months of use, terrific stroller

We bought this stroller when I was 7 months pregnant because my husband wanted one in his football teams color and I wanted one that had full recline, a locking/swivel wheel, and was sturdy for bumpy streets. In the last 16 months, I have put over 1000 miles on this stoller, including training to walk a half marathon (DD was the youngest finisher, at 8 months!), frequent trips to the mountians for hiking, and walking many places we go, usually at least 2 miles a day in errands and to the park, at least a couple times a week we will walk the 6 miles round trip to the library. My daughter loves this stroller. We also have the Maclaren and the Chariot, both great strollers, but this one wins hands down for ease of pushing and stearing, roominess for my 16 month old to wiggle and play, and sturdiness. She literally walks over to it and cries until I put her in it and take her for a walk. I have not had a single problem and the only things I have had to do is pump up the tires and put some silicone lubricant on the tires occasionally. I do recommend that you get the bar if you are going to be out and about for a long time. My daughter really likes that to hold onto when she wants to sit more upright when it is bumpy. We also have the optional sunshade, which we use primarily when my daughter naps to keep mosquitos off of her. The stroller is no wider than the Bob Revolution (The Bob does have a better sun cover, but does not recline fully, something we really need for my daughter to nap when we are out). We have the optional lock for when we have to go in small stores or resturants, but I have not found that it takes up anymore of a footprint than the Graco travel systems. Though I bought a Maclaren to use in the car and when out shopping, I now use the MBUS because my daughter will stay in it about 3X as long as the smaller stollers. It is suprisingly easy to get in and out of the car. If I could only have one stroller, this would be it.

Mountain Buggy Urban Single

I got this stroller last year because of rave reviews from some friends. There are pros and cons to this stroller (like any other stroller). Pros: you can steer with one hand, it is smooth, the seat is straight and supportive, large storage, lots of pockets, nice looks. Cons: it is very wide and difficult to fit through doorways, the sun cover is limited. I live in NYC so getting through doors and navigating tight spaces is a must, but I find myself using my umbrella stroller more often now and I only use the MBUS for jogging. And as a jogger, there are better options. And as a hybrid, I think there are some other better options and I am considering the BOB instead.

Quality complaint

I purchased the MUBS 2005 model when it was on sale from this site. I have been using the stroller for about 5 months. The clips that support the backrest have broken and the clip that supports the bottom of the seat has broken. I have two friends that own the same model and both of their strollers have broken clips. My child is large for a one year old but still at 27 pounds is well within the recomended weight limit for the stroller. I was also disapointed with the fabric which appeared faded right out of the box and the peices do not match. It looks like the stroller was made from several different dye lots of fabric. Apart from these concerns I do love the stroller. It handles beautifully. It is very easy to push and turn and I love it for outdoor use. I don't take it shopping because it is just too wide.

I purchase this stroller for one reason only. Not made in China and the reliability. This stroller when you push it feels very light.

Great Multiuse Stroller

Reviewer: Anonymous , San Rafael, CA Date: August 31, 2007
I've used the 2005 model for my daughter since birth (with car seat adapter, then regular seat). This was our only stroller for the first year, and it has been great. Things I love: removable seat, easy to maneuver, great for city/trail/jogging/all over. One "gotcha," my tires pop easily on thorny trails (duh). I did purchase a supplemental sunshade to help with coverage. Fully recommend this stroller. Love it!

Wonderful Stroller/Jogger

After shopping for a jogger starting when I was pregnant, we finally purchased this one when our son was 6 months old. One of the major reasons we decided on this one is because it has a solid back support (not a sling). In addition, it has very high quality fabric and workmanship. This stroller has been worth every penny! We jog with it (6 miles/week) and it is perfect for this distance and we use it on almost daily basis for walks in the park, beach or any rough terrain. It is NOT good for shopping trips including malls because it is too wide. We use Maclaren for this purpose. Our son is very comfortable in it (we purchased the wool liner which I would highly recommend) for added comfort and to protect the stroller fabric. We had had absolutely no problems with it in the 6 months that we owned it. You can steer it with two fingers.
